Barry Jenkins’next project is fit for a king.
TheMoonlightdirector has signed on to helm a new version ofThe Lion Kingfor Disney, EW has confirmed.
The new film will be a follow-up to Jon Favreau’s 2019 remake of the beloved animated classic.

(James Earl Jones voiced the lion patriarchin both the 1994 original and last year’s remake).
Jeff Nathanson, who wrote the 2019 film, is also writing the new script.
The remake was a box office hit, raking in more than $1.6 billion worldwide.
