BetweenMindhunterseason 2 andQuentin TarantinosOnce Upon a Time in Hollywood, actor Damon Herriman is a one-man Manson Family band.

Then, a few months later, he was tapped to play Manson again in Tarantinos latest feature film.

(Season 2 ofMindhunterpremiered on Friday.)

Mindhunter; Once Upon a Time in Hollywood

Netflix; Columbia Pictures

So, Im way happier than I am weirded out, Herriman says.

Herriman filmed a speaking part as Manson for Tarantino, but his dialogue was dropped for the theatrical cut.

By chance, they ended up shooting within a couple of weeks of each other.

MINDHUNTER

Netflix

That was pretty weird.

The last time being January.

You auditioned three times?Yeah.

Obviously, they wanted to be sure.

I cant even count how many roles are across your resume now.

Normally, no, you would probably audition for something once or [twice].

It was a completely separate situation.

People assumed that one job led to the other, but absolutely not all.

So, once he made that connection, the audition came through from that.

I was already doing [Mindhunter].

As it turns out, he didnt mind.

Theres some audition tapes of his online from about 1967-1968 when hes auditioning for a music contract.

Do you feel the same?I completely agree with him.

Thats really interesting to hear that.

I still dont quite know.

Partly because hes so complex but also because he presented himself differently all the time.

Theresan interview with Ron Reagan Jr. online.

He just talks pretty much normally back to him.

Its not like any Manson youve ever seen.

I dont know either.

And he was an incredible speaker.

For me, I can see why people were mesmerized by him.

He was never short of thought or a philosophy on anything.

He would absolutely arch up if there was any kind of anger or attack.

He would certainly attack back at any given opportunity.

Theres no question that calling Manson a midget to his face like that wouldnt have made him happy.

Your performance inMindhunteris also very physical.

Hes sitting on the chair, he has to be above the other two players in the room.

He has a particular way of this slippery, snaky way of moving.

You just take a stab at get into that persons body as much as possible.

Theres an authority and an ownership of a room that he would have when he walked into it.

It goes back to that tonal thing.

InMindhunter, it was all about the particular behavior that would be true for that moment.

That may make an appearance at some point and I dont want to spoil it for people.

Theres something about that that works brilliantly in terms of what then hangs over the rest of the film.

Im like, Thats exciting.

I was like, Nooo!

Hes like, Why?!

Youve done it twice.

No, thats why I wouldnt do it again.

I have one string in my bow and its called Charles Manson.

Ive had my fair share of Manson.
