We did that last year with the Klingon war.
It also gives an opportunity to show a part of Spock we havent seen.
The Spock we meet in season 2 is really not there yet.

The ads very clearly seem to signal that the show is more fun this time.
It was even put right in the Comic-Con trailers dialogue.
There was a conscious choice in that some of whats best aboutTrekis the humor.

I dont know if I have the objectivity to tell you.
Anson Mount told me its more episodic this season, less serialized? No, thats not true.
There are no real one-offs.

CBS
There are episodes thatseemstandalone that are fundamentally part of where were going at the end.
So the season 1 finale teased the arrival of the Enterprise.
Then the trailers show Pike coming over and joining the Discovery team.
The show is calledDiscovery.
So the focus is on Discovery.
But anything is possible.

It will feel more… real-world?

A big part of my process is listening to the other writers.
WithTrek, you want to go out and beta-test ideas.
Theres a lot of conversation online like, Why dont you start with new things?
Why do you have to look back?
And the answer is, We can do both.
Wehaveto do both.Star Trekhas always done both.
