And it didnt so well in the ratings last night.)

The genius of Whitfords performance starts with his mustache, which is gorgeous in its grungy awfulness.

The Mustache

Whitfords porno-stache is the most visible example of the shows very particular 70s-era tone.

The shows color scheme tends toward leisure-suit brown, and the soundtrack is packed full of retro-rock.

On a deeper level, the show is an explicit move backwards from theCSIbrand of serious, scientific crime-solving.

Thats a good thing: its a kick to see a cop show where nobody wears a lab coat.

Right now,The Good Guysis a compilation of very different tones.

That indicates a kind of cop version ofParks and Recreation.
