Scott M. Gimple also explains how the new show and TWD timelines won’t exactly match up.
ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY: Now that wevetalked aboutThe Walking Deadmovie, lets move over toWorld Beyond.
Not enough for people to notice.

Zach Dilgard/AMC
So its not completely simultaneous?
Not in any way that anyone will possibly notice.
We see the three rings, assuming three different communities.
You now have threeWalking Deadshows.
Im just doing math, Scott.
Im doing simple math. No, Im actually loving it.
We dont want to change all ofThe Walking Deadto having to do with this.
This is not the new mythology forThe Walking Dead.
This is a new mythology forThe Walking Deaduniverse.
Is there going to be any other crossover element toWorld Beyondother than the CRM?Yeah, absolutely.
I mean, they do share a universe.
Weve been talking about aspects of next season ofWorld Beyond.
There might even be a big aspect of crossover with one of the shows.
Thats the other part of it is we have these plans, but weve got to execute them.
Thats sort of next season.
Were still finishing up this season.
They do share a universe, so where there are opportunities, we want to take them.
We didnt want to make as big a deal about it.
Its just nice, even unto ourselves, between the shows to feel that its one world.
The new show takes place in Nebraska, is that right? It does, though not exclusively there.
Why Nebraska?Thats a great question.
It was a different place that conceivably could have had their own things going on there.
It wasnt like West Virginia or Southern Georgia.
We wanted to show a very different life.
Its not even like were honing up on aspects of Nebraskan life.
Its more just conceivably a different place where there would be no cross between them.
That leads in well to my next question.
Theres a certain everydayness of this to them, though theyve been behind walls.
Its a very big deal for these characters to leave these walls.
Even though they arent like, Oh, what are these people?
They arent shocked upon seeing walkers, but its just they havent been interacting with them.
They havent had to interact with them.
Its an incredible act of bravery for some of these people to potentially step out into the world.
You have threeWalking Deadshows now, and the movies as well.
If its not us, other people will.
There is sort of a signature approach that we have that we do want to mix up as well.
We wantThe Walking Deadto mean different things, and were going to continue to do that.
I think weve reached a point where people enjoy a variety of different stories within the same universe.
My goal is to do more and to do more varied entertainment.
Each show should scratch its own different itch.
