We learned that Beta rocked a ski mask and seemed content to be done with society.
That is, until a bald psychopath walked into his medical facility (and his heart?

What does it all mean?
For that, we went to showrunner Angela Kang for answers.
Its like whats happening on the other side of the aisle as well.
Because they are such an enigma in a way.
They are not just these nameless, faceless monsters walking around in zombie masks.
So we wanted to just pull back the curtain on that a little bit.
There is something about her thats so compelling to people who need somebody to hang onto desperately.
We just thought that was an interesting way to tell the story.
And also, Beta is just so fun.
So heres a guy who was tailor-made to become a Whisperer.
And yet he carries this persons face and his shirt.
So Beta hangs on to things.
Thats what we know about him.
Will we ever see Betas face on this show?We will.
Yes, we will.
And it will beWalking Deadweird.
Another big part of the episode is meeting Thora Birchs character, Gamma.
The question I have is, why?
It speaks a lot to the power of Alpha over people.
Weve been talking about it a lot as a kind of a cult.
I dont know how to survive.
She is the one that protects us all.
Shes the one that gives us structure and meaning in a world that doesnt make any fing sense anymore.
Thora is just a really exceptional actress, were so lucky to have her.
She occupies her own space in the story.
Well, whats going on with Alpha?
Because we see at one point she goes against her own rules and spares Gammas sister.
Then we see that creepy wooden-like shrine sort of situation.
Clearly she seems to be struggling with losing Lydia to civilization.
Theres not even an origin point.
Shes not a good mother to Lydia.
And thats also part of why we wanted to tell the story of how that trust was won.
Shes supposed to be attacking these communities and what have we been doing?
Were just wondering around.
Wait, theres another person with a name and theres a Gamma now?
What the f is that?
So there are these little things that are starting to gnaw at him.
It just makes him wonder a little bit.
