Randall was riddled with anxiety inlast weeks episode ofThis Is Us, and on Tuesday nights installment a.k.a.

part 2 of the new Big 3 trilogy it was Kevins turn to enter the emotional wringer.

What awaits the Sad 3?

THIS IS US

Ron Batzdorff/NBC

How serious are two of the three Kates problems?

Will Kevin have to see about a girl soon and which one?

As he tells Sophie, This place still makes me sad, but Im not afraid of it anymore.

Is Kevin better off before or after the events of this week?

In some ways, it was absolutely the most beautiful detour that life could have thrown at him.

Now hes finally at a place where maybe he could be ready for that life.

So I think its safe to say hes feelingallof the feelings after this.

At Claires grave, he tells Claire that hes finally ready, steady, and sober.

I wish I had another crack at it, but its too late, he says.

Does he feel he deserves a happy ending?

Hesbringing out John Legendon the first date, which is kind of a crazy move.

Kevin and Sophie share some intense scenes in the episode, including an almost kiss.

After he leaves, we see her staring at her mothers emerald ring, comparing it with hers.

Its a loaded moment and we can sense that his visit has deeply impacted her.

So I wouldguessthat obviously she knew he didnt receive it.

Whether or not she knows the exact details of the conversation or not is open for interpretation.

But she definitely associates that ring with Kevin and never received it.

But I guess its open for interpretation.APTAKER:I agree that she knew that.

And I dont think he necessarily shared every detail in every moment with Sophie that he had.

That moment with Sophie lingering on the rings might indicate that shes doing a lot of hard thinking.

What can you say about whats going on in her head?APTAKER:Its really complicated.

Hes the source of a lot of pain.

So its a lot of really complicated pros and cons, all wrapped up in one very handsome package.

If you thought I was letting her sleep with Justin Hartley on national television, youre nuts.

What gives?BERGER:That was a lot of episodes ago, that tweet!

[Laughs]APTAKER:Weve just been slowly wearing Dan down since he tweeted that!

[Laughs] It took, what, two and a half years, and we did it.

Its something weve talked about and had in our heads from early on.

Which may be a great decision; it may be a terrible decision.

Ill leave that up to our audience to decide.

Its interesting that you say that.

He consoles Kate by saying, Im so sorry, but hes looking at Madison in the bed.

How is he feeling about what just happened?

He was reeling from being thrown into this incredibly emotional, intense period of time with Sophie.

I dont think it was in his plans.

This is not good.

And then, of course, theres something unknown behind door 3.

This episode deepened the Kevin-Sophie connection in a meaningful way.

But for a lot of people, thats not what their love lives look like.

So Kevin is the character where were telling a much longer, more complicated journey.

This episode showed Kevin wrestling with his great love story.

Last season, his No.

2 love story was Zoe (Melanie Liburd).

And what we love about the Zoes story is that she connects to her world on these two points.

And were always open for stories that can bring her back.

There wasnt one this year, but thats not to say there wont be.

Toddler Kate (Isabella Rose Landau) tells Jack she has a problem.

As does adult Kate, whos in marital distress.

Not that high stakes.

[Laughs] I mean, both of the other Kates, theyre pretty neck and neck.

Its a really, really major episode for Chrissy and Hannah embodying this character.

Kate, Toby, and Randall are headed to the cabin, theyre all in a life sucks place.

Isaac and I got to write this one, and we cant wait for everyone to see it.
